History / Experience

JD Bowling was established in 1972 by Joe Dubinsky. Prior to starting JD Bowling, Joe worked for Double Diamond Winnipeg where he learned the business doing installs and service/maintenance of Double Diamond equipment. When Double Diamond was shutting down operations Joe was given an option to take over with some support from his former employers. Joe ran the entire enterprise on his own out of his house.

He continued to do installs and supplied needed bowling equipment, repairs and maintenance to Winnipeg and surrounding area bowling facilities. 20 years ago the business was purchased by Joe’s son, Edward and doubled in size from one employee to two!

Edward and his wife Dorothy have been running the business ever since and have generated a lot of good will within the local bowling world for their efforts. Although the Double Diamond equipment has been replaced with new equipment, JD Bowling is still the first contact for installs and service.

The Team - Edward & Dorothy Dubinsky

Edward says he was “born on the lanes” and some of his earliest memories are being out with his father servicing bowling alley equipment, keeping the facilities up and running for the entertainment and fun of local Winnipeg bowling families. Edward had bowling in his blood - to the extent that he’s even invented and developed a widely used pin base that adds to the fun of bowling by getting the player scores higher in a game! Edward has learned most of what he knows from direct experience but has also taken certification training with Brunswick, one of the leading suppliers of bowling equipment around the world.

While both Dorothy and Edward do sales, Dorothy runs the office dealing with all the shipping and receiving, ordering, managing the inventory and fielding requests, emails and phone calls, while Edward is out on-site working with the installation, maintenance and repair of new and old equipment. As a 2 person operation, the roles often overlap. Although there have been many updates to the bowling equipment over the years, particularly with computer scoring and graphics, Edward and Dorothy have managed to stay ahead of the game and remain the “go to” people in the bowling industry, locally in Winnipeg and also throughout western Canada.

Edward and Dorothy are very committed to Winnipeg beyond just their support for bowling. They also support local organizations including: the St. James Rods, Military for Winnipeg Jets and the Manitoba Proprietors Youth Bowling Council Dinner.
